SE Aspen microprocessor - Qualcomm MSM 7227 RISC cpu with embedded DSP

Yes, today on Sony Ericsson Aspen again. The microprocessor for M1i device using a Qualcomm chip, with 600MHz clock speed, with a lot of embedded DSP. Summarize of the specification of this CPU:

As this chip release in 2009, so this is one generation behind of current powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon cpu chip. What MSM stand for? Okay, it acronym for Mobile Station Modem, it a platform chipset solution that enable cost-effective mobile handsets with advanced capabilities that leverage 3G technology.

Aspen cpu do support Android, and if some geek come out with Android ROM for Sony Ericsson Aspen, don't feel surprise!

By the way, I not sure whether Aspen cpu do support Windows Phone 7 OS, but I don't think there will be upgrade for Aspen from SE. If you like to get a device with WP7, get a new phone. :)


Fyi, Qualcomm MSM7227 supported Google Android 1.6 and 2.1.

This is a nice link to Sony Ericsson Aspen help information, where it support interactive demo on how to quickly on-hand to your Aspen phone. I found it pretty hard for me to get familiarize with other phone, after sticked to Nokia phone for 10 years (several models, across 10 years). So, this will quickly help me to get use to Window Mobile 6.5.3 professional phone device interface.

Sony Ericsson Aspen (M1i) software / firmware update (Sep 2010)

Checked Sony Ericsson website on the latest firmware changes and release date and found information below.
The Aspen firmware/software I updated release on Sep 01, 2010. It improved features include battery capacity. Anyway, I did found some battery capacity issue after update to this new firmware, and I'll test through it before sharing right here. 

The firmware / software update information I did on Jan 10, 2011 for my Aspen:

If you have issue to update your Aspen to new software revision, you may write a comment so that I would try to help whatever I could! Anyway, the software update procedure for Sony Ericsson phone not as ease as Nokia phone, good job Nokia team!

Sony Ericsson Aspen (M1i) latest firmware / ROM version

Just updated my SE Aspen smartphone, I found there is not much information on Aspen device on internet, thus like to share information on this device for everyone easy access to it.

After my software update via Sony Ericsson software update tool, below the version info:

Customization ID: 1238-5894

Content Version: PA6

There is some website reported Aspend ROM / Flash size is 256MB, if you check the Device Information -> Hardware:

CPU: Qualcomm MSM7227
Speed: ARM11 - 600MHz
RAM Size: 256MB
Flash Size: 512MB
Data Bus: 32 bits
Display Resolution: 320 x 240
Colors: 65536 ( or 65k)
